Abhishek Verma
B I O G R A P H Y
Abhishek Verma was born on 23February 1968 in New Delhi to a family of politicians. Late Shrikant Verma, his father, was a well-known journalist of his time. He later joined the Indian National Congress, upon the insistence of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Late Shrikant Verma was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1976-1986, and later, appointed as the Official Spokesperson and General Secretary of Congress Party by Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Veena Verma, Abhishek Verma’s mother, was also a leading politician. She served as a Member of Parliament from 1986 onwards for 18 years and was later appointed as the Vice President of Indian National Congress.
A Hindu College graduate, Abhishek Verma pursued higher studies from Georgetown University, Washington DC.
In 1989, Abhishek Verma joined asthe Editor-Publisher of India Worldwide a monthly magazine for Non-Resident Indians, published from USA & India simultaneously.
In 1997, when Abhishek Verma was in his late twenties, he was named the youngest billionaire of India by renowned magazine India Today in its cover story of November 1997 issue.
Abhishek Verma’s wedding with former Romanian supermodel Anca Neacsu, once again brought the attention of the Indian and the International media towards him. Since their wedding, Anca has been a pillar of strength to him. The husband-wife duo has achieved great success while working together.
Abhishek Verma is an Indian citizen and resides in New Delhi with his family.
PHILANTHROPY
In 1987, the Verma Family Private Office setup ‘Shrikant Verma Trust’ in order to promote the memory of Abhishek Verma’s father Late Shrikant Verma, through numerous charity activities of the Trust.
For the last three decades Abhishek Verma through Shrikant Verma Trust, has launched several civic initiatives in India. Installation of 100+ electric water wells for the underprivileged in the State of Chhattisgarh, establishing more than 20 medical clinics and starting mid-day meal schemes for children are some of the drives sponsored by him. He also setup a Cancer Detection Centre in Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh)in 1996.
The Trust under the agies of Abhishek Verma, has been running mid-day meal scheme(s) in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for the last 25 years for school going children.
Over 10 million children have been fed with more than 100 million meals served till date. During Corona pandemic lockdown in 2020-2021, Abhishek Verma though Shrikant Verma Trust, distributed hundreds of millions of masks, millions of liters of sanitizers and other protective gear to the needy and Corona Warriors across India and Romania.
Abhishek erma, chartered an aircraft in March 2020, to rescue 320 stranded Indian passengers who were stuck at Amsterdam airport for 5 days as all the air traffic to India had been suspended due to Corona outbreak and these stranded passengers were held up the transit zone of Schiphol Airport Amsterdam.
Besides the above initiatives, Abhishek Verma, through the medium of the Trust, initiated the ‘Shrikant Verma Smriti Puraskar’ for young writers and poets in 1988. Several prominent writers and poets of today, were once awarded by the Trust in recognition for their poetry and Literary works.
V E N T U R E S
Abhishek Verma chose to travel the road less taken, and forayedn into the Defence sector as a weapons and arms manufacturer and distributor in early 1990's and achieved great success with sales to the Indian Government continuously for the last 32 years. Projects spearheaded by him culminated into sales are in excess of US$ 6 billion.
With the advent of Government of India's 'Make in India' initiative in 2019 for the Defence sector, Abhishek Verma incubated launched several defence projects and companies that have won prestigious military contracts globally.
Abhishek Verma in circa 2000 expanded his business portfolio and made significant investments in telecom industry with his venture Atlas Interactive India Private Limited. He went on to sign an agreement with the Centre to run the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and also entered into a US$ 1.2 billion financing agreement with ZTE Corporation, China in 2005 for development of TV over IP and fixed line wired networks in India.
In 2017 the Verma Family Private Office acquired rights of an European FMCG brand OLIALIA {www.olialia.com} for production of cigarettes, chewing tobacco and other derivates that were hugely successful when launched in 2018.
In 2017, the Verma Family Private Office signed an agreement for 50 years on Build Own Transfer (BOT) basis, Maldives international Airport at Shaviyani Atoll.
For this project the Private Office of Verma Family has committed an investment of US$500 million to he Government of Maldives.
The Verma Family Private Office owns several thousand hectares of farmland(s) for cultivation in India that are the test-beds for precision agriculture and drone farming techniques.
